HISTORY

GYROTONIC® was created in the late 70's and early 80's by Juliu Horvath, who was seeking to heal his body after the injuries sustained through his years as a professional ballet dancer.

Juliu created a system of movement that embraces key movement principles also found in yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi. After years of teaching the class, then known as Yoga For Dancers (also known as GYROKINESIS®), Juliu began creating equipment designed to guide a student's motion while still incorporating the freedom of range and flow that Yoga For Dancers® allowed.
After two decades of continued work and refinement, the system, both the exercises and the equipment, are breathing new life into the exercise field.

Juliu spends a large part of the year in Miami Beach, FL, teaching GYROTONIC® instructors from around the world. The remainder of the year is spent in Europe training instructors there. All the while, he continues to refine the system, improving the equipment, updating the trainings and always looking to the future of what GYROTONIC® will become.

WHAT IS GYROTONIC®?

GYROTONIC® is a unique low-impact exercise method incorporating the key principles of yoga, tai-chi, ballet and swimming.

It simultaneously stretches and strengthens the body with minimal effort while releasing tension, developing strength and increasing range of motion.

Assisted by the GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower, exercises are performed in circular, spiraling and undulating movements.

Fluidity is the key; corresponding breathing patterns supply rhythm and enhances cardiovascular and neuromuscular stimulation.

WHO DOES GYROTONIC®?

GYROTONIC® is used worldwide with dancers, athletes, rehabilitation facilities, and as a general conditioning tool for people of all walks of life, regardless of age, physical abilities or limitations.
